Meeds Environmental LLC was hired to reduce the turbidity levels, improve water discharge levels and improve the overall aesthetics of the Koi Pond within the Japanese Gardens.

Meeds professional staff and equipment came to our rescue within 24 hours and began treatment of an environmental disaster. Without the help of Meeds water filtration and treatment Seattle Parks more than likely would have lost some if not all of their Fish, Turtles, Frogs and whatever else would be affected by the accidental water line break.

When an 18” water main broke and sent soil, road oil, debris and chlorine into the Japanese Garden's Koi pond, the lives of the fish and the whole system were in danger.

Meeds Environmental LLC was hired and responded within the critical 24hr time window to reduce the turbidity levels, improve water discharge levels and improve the overall aesthetics of the Koi Pond within the Japanese Gardens. Meeds Environmental provided a Mobile Water Treatment Facility (MWTF) to accomplish the job. Meeds Environmental’s MWTF utilizes Chitosan enhanced sand filtration technology to remove suspended sediment from the water.

More than 250,000 gallons of water was treated during the project. Turbidity levels in the pond were reduced from pretreatment readings of approximately 155 NTUs, to readings ranging below 4.8 NTUs at the completion of the project.

The treatment significantly improved visual aesthetics of the water, and improved living conditions for the Koi fish. Additionally, the decrease of suspended organic material will also likely result in less oxygen depletion of the water, something which had been a problem in the past.
